NPC Trust System (What to Gift & Their Benefits) in Crimson Desert…
Short answer
Every NPC in Pywel has a hidden relationship meter, and knowing what to gift each one turns a confusing system into a free resource farm that pays for itself ten times over.
Steam Community guide by maps.
Summary
The Trust system tracks Kliff's relationship with nearly every NPC in Pywel. Trust runs from 0 to 100. Positive actions like greeting and gifting raise it; negative actions like stealing in plain sight or bumping into someone lower it.
Hitting 100 with merchants unlocks Supply Contracts and Trade Agreements that pipe their stock directly to Greymane Camp. Hitting 100 with regular NPCs pays out crafting materials, insects, treasure maps, or endgame resources like Mercury, Brimstone, and Rubber.
Best gifts by type: Light Copper Pouches for merchants (+5 Trust, ~7 copper each), insects or herbs or collectible bottles for non-merchants depending on archetype, and a single coin for beggars (+50 Trust). The Bunny Mask adds +2 Trust per interaction, or +5 with a socket — best gear for trust farming.
Current bug warning: Non-vendor NPCs vanish permanently after hitting 100 Trust. Grab your reward immediately and do not leave the area first.

What is NPC Trust & How Do They Work?
Trust is a per-NPC relationship value that ranges from 0 to 100. Every individual NPC has their own separate meter, meaning the beggar near Hernand's south gate and the beggar near the tavern are tracked independently. You can check an NPC's current Trust by shining your lantern or using sword glint on them.

The system splits into two meaningful tracks. Merchant Trust governs shopkeepers, innkeepers, saddlers, and traders. As your relationship improves, prices at that vendor start to decrease. Hit 100 and they'll offer a Trade Agreement you can purchase for roughly 15 to 20 silver, which pipes their entire stock into the corresponding shop at Greymane Camp so you never have to ride back to them. Some merchants also unlock hidden inventory items at max Trust. The equipment vendor in Hernand, for example, reveals a kite shield with a slotted Abyss Core that reduces guard endurance cost.
Non-merchant Trust covers everyone else: townsfolk, wandering freeswords, children, beggars, scholars, farmers, miners, hunters, and animals. Hitting 100 with these NPCs gives a one-time gift reward that varies by their archetype. Animals work differently. Dogs and cats can be petted up to 5 times per in-game day for +5 Trust each time, or you can feed dogs raw meat for a faster climb. At 100 Trust, the animal becomes a permanent companion pet that follows Kliff around and auto-collects loot drops after combat.

Things That You Should Know
One pro tip that experienced players swear by: equip the Bunny Mask before doing any trust farming. It's a leather helmet that grants +2 Trust on every greeting and gift interaction, and it has a socket that can push the bonus up to +5 per action by using Solidarity I to III Abyss Gear. The stats on the Bunny Mask are actually among the best for leather armor helmets anyway, so you're not sacrificing combat effectiveness. Combined with targeted gifting, this turns what seems like a grind into something you can knock out in a few focused sessions.
For random NPCs you meet out in the world, always push to 100 in a single encounter if you can. These NPCs are not guaranteed to be in the same spot when you return, and partial Trust on a stranger you'll never find again is wasted resources.
A final note on a current bug: as of recent patches, non-vendor NPCs who reach 100 Trust have been vanishing from the game world permanently. Named camp Greymanes, beggars in Hernand, even quest-relevant NPCs like Marius and Naria have gone missing after being maxed out. Vendors are unaffected. Pearl Abyss has acknowledged a related trust-reset issue on their known issues list, and the community believes the disappearance bug is a side effect of an anti-farming measure that went too far. For now, grab your reward the moment you hit 100 and be cautious about maxing camp NPCs you still need for quests or dispatches.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest way to raise NPC Trust in Crimson Desert?
- For merchants, gift Light Copper Pouches looted from bandits since each one gives +5 Trust and only costs about 7 copper. For beggars, give two coins with a short pause between each, then greet them to reach 100 Trust instantly for just 2 copper total.
What are the best gifts for each NPC type in Crimson Desert?
- Children want insects, herbalists accept any herb, scholars take collectible bottles, miners take thin leather or pickaxes, fishermen accept cooked food or wood, and most strangers and townsfolk accept cheap cooked food like Grilled Meat.
Does raising merchant Trust lower shop prices in Crimson Desert?
- Yes. Prices at a vendor gradually decrease as your Trust level climbs, and reaching 100 Trust unlocks Trade Agreements that let you buy their full inventory from Greymane Camp.
How do I get The Claw fishing rod from Patrigio?
- Find Patrigio near Howling Hill camp between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM in-game time after completing Chapter 3, then gift him 20 Copper Pouches of any size to hit 100 Trust. He rewards you with The Claw, which auto-reels fish after you tire them out.
What does the Bunny Mask do for Trust farming?
- The Bunny Mask is a leather helmet that adds +2 Trust to every greeting and gift action, and its socket can increase that bonus to +5 total per interaction. It also happens to have strong base stats for a leather armor helmet.
Why do NPCs disappear after reaching 100 Trust?
- This is a known bug in the current build. Non-vendor NPCs who hit max Trust sometimes vanish permanently from the world, including named Greymane camp members. Vendors are safe to max out. Collect your reward immediately upon reaching 100 Trust with any non-vendor NPC.
Can animals become pets through the Trust system?
- Yes. Pet dogs or cats up to 5 times per in-game day for +5 Trust each time, or feed dogs raw meat for faster progress. At 100 Trust, the animal becomes a companion that follows Kliff and auto-picks up loot after battles.
What do Scholars at the Scholatone Research Center give at max Trust?
- The giant Scholars there accept hides rather than bottles and reward one of three endgame materials: Mercury, Brimstone, or Rubber. Brimstone is especially valuable for crafting the 12-second no-stamina-consumption elixir.
