Dead by Daylight: Where to point flashlight?

The problem

I really hate doing flashlight challenges but I want the iridescent shards. I have been trying for 3 hours now tonight trying to flashlight the killer when they are carrying a survivor. Where am I suppose to point? I can't seem to find the correct spot.
