FINAL FANTASY XIV Online: Can you get a new CD key?

Short answer

No confirmed fix yet. Players suggest: Download free trial via steam and try to log in.

The problem

I bought the steam version years ago and linked it to my (then) e-mail adres. However, I wanted to try out the game again recently but the problem was that my old e-mail which I used the CD key with, got hacked and deleted my FFXIV account. Now, I linked a different Square Enix e-mail to the Steam version and can't use the CD key anymore, which I forgot you had to use a CD key upon starting up…
